Even though I am only 17 years old, I have been seen some amazing things and have been to some remarkable sports venues. From Yankee Stadium to Wrigley Field, from the Orange Bowl in Miami to the Rose Bowl from Pasadena, I have been across the country.
However, there are a few places in the country that I am dying to visit. In baseball, the top place that I have yet to see is Fenway Park, home of the Boston Red Sox. Even though I am a die hard Yankees fan, I have always had a strong desire to visit this historic venue where legends like Ted Williams and Carl Yastrzemski called home. Seeing a New York versus Boston game their would be a trip of a lifetime.
In the NBA, I have only been to two venues being the Heat’s and Jazz arenas, so I need to do some catching up. If I had to choose a basketball game to go to, I would have to choose Madison Square Garden in New York, home of the Knicks. Even though I’ve walked past it in Manhattan, I have yet to see a game where you can see Spike Lee nightly heckling opposing players.
For college basketball, my list would go on and on, but I somehow narrowed it down to three venues. First is the Carrier Dome, in upstate New York where the Orangemen of Syracuse play. Holding about 33,000 people, this madhouse has seen the greats of Carmelo Anthony, and Derrick Coleman. Second, is the Allen Fieldhouse on the campus of the University of Kansas.Allen Fieldhouse is filled with history and tradition other programs can only dream of. There’s the legends that have stepped foot onto the court, the Rock Chalk Chant, the reading of newspapers during the announcement of visiting teams roster; all symbols of the experience found at Allen Fieldhouse. Finally, third is Cameron Indoor Stadium at Duke. Even though I am a Duke hater, I have been dying to see a game there. I am a big fan of rowdy crowds and awesome student sections, and Dukes crowd is second to none. The Cameron Crazies make a trip to Durham near impossible to win. Duke has won 77 straight home games against non conference foes, and has even had such a streak reach 95 games during the history of Cameron Indoor Stadium. 83% of Duke home games have ended in a win at Cameron Indoor Stadium. The talent level of Duke combined with the suffocating atmosphere of Cameron Indoor Stadium easily makes a road game against Duke one of the toughest in the nation, and puts Cameron Indoor Stadium first on my list.
If you have not read my blogs already, you must know that I am a huge football fan. Which makes me sad that I have only been to one NFL game, in 2007 when I saw my favorite team the Dallas Cowboys take on the Dolphins in my hometown of Miami. Again, I have a huge list but I will only say three of the venues I wish to see. First, is Arrowhead Stadium, home of the Kansas City Chiefs. I’m a big fan of tailgating, and I hear Arrowhead might have the best tailgaters in the league. The fans are so passionate and it gives the Chiefs a huge advantage. Second, is Qwest Field in Seattle. The 12th Man of Seattle comes ready to cheer on their Seahawks come game day, as the the Seahawks rarely lose in front of the home town team. Finally, my last destination on my NFL list is Green Bay’s Lambeau Field. Having sold out every home game since 1960, Green Bay may have the most passionate fans in sports. The Lambeau mystique is something real, as the Packers won every home playoff game up until 2002. Some many memorable moments have happened there that this historical venue has to top my list.
Unlike my previous two lists, I will pick one college football stadium that I want to visit. This is a sport where there are so many different venues to visit, that its hard to calculate. However, the number one college football venue I want to visit is Beaver Stadium, home of the Penn State Nittany Lions. One of the largest stadiums in the world, this venue is home to maybe the loudest fan base in America. My ultimate trip would be to see the Nittany Lions, on primetime television when the fans are in all white. Beaver Stadium would be a great place to visit, and thats why it tops my list.
